REACT Training Nearby, Starts Soon, Sign Up!

REACT/CERT training is currently free to any citizen, neighborhood, school, church, employee, or business in the City of Richmond. Neighbors are encouraged to train in their neighborhoods.

REACT/CERT was implemented, and is maintained under the leadership of the City of Richmond, Fire Department Office of Emergency Services. CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is the federally and nationally most recognized name for REACT.  REACT/CERT students are trained by the Richmond Fire Department and certified volunteer community trainers.  REACT/CERT students receive 20 hours of free life saving training, plus attend disaster drills yearly. Upon completion of the training and drill, students graduate with a certificate, vest, and a hard hat imprinted with the CERT logo.

REACT/CERT Training consists of 5 evening classes and a final drill. The classes will be held at Clinton Avenue Baptist Church, 3017 Clinton Ave @ 31st St, Richmond, 94804.
Each class is Tuesday from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm, February 2, 9, 16, 23 and March 2.
The final drill will be on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (location: To Be Determined).

Missed classes can be taken at WCC Adult Education, Alvarado Campus at 5625 Sutter Avenue in Richmond. Each class is from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm. Class #1 3/10 or 4/15, Class #2 3/17 or 4/19, Class #3 3/24 or 4/20, Class #4 3/31 or 4/21, Class #5 4/14 or 4/22. There will also be a final drill the last Saturday of October.

REACT/CERT training covers:

·        Emergency preparedness in the home, neighborhood, and the workplace
·        The city’s emergency warning systems (Sirens, C.A.N., T.I.S.): what to do and when
·        How to organize your neighborhood team
·        Utility control: how and when to shut them off
·        Fire fighting techniques, extinguishers
·        Hazardous materials: in the home, workplace, on the roadways
·        Terrorism Awareness
·        Disaster medicine including bleeding, shock, airway obstruction; triage
·        Light Search and Rescue
·        Lifting heavy objects
·        Damage Assessment
·        Disaster Psychology
·        Communications
